Surfing has been a competition sport, for quite some time, with various events, like the 2017 WSL CT (World Surf League Championship Tour), which kicked off back in March and attracted the top names in surfing. For 2017, there is a total of seventeen women and thirty-four men competing, including John John Florence, the 2016 champion.
The men’s surfers hail from all over the world, including the United States, Australia, Brazil, France, Tahiti, South Africa, Portugal, and Italy. The women’s surfers come from France, Brazil, Australia, and the United States. It is sure to be an exciting season as we watch to see who will be the champions this year!
Professional SUPs Paddlers’ Competitions Growing for 2017
Stand up paddle boarding is a new sports competition that has been gaining interest from both men and women. Just a few short years ago, there were only a small number of participants in competitions. It was not uncommon to find around five men who would finish the competition with fewer than twenty entrants.
Today, that has changed and, now, placing in the top 20 at a major completion is considered a big accomplishment. On the women’s side of the sport, things were similar to the men’s, with few competitors. For 2017, the number of women entering competitions has also increased and has made the sport more challenging, even for reigning champions.
Here at BruSurf, surfboard and paddle board supplier, we are excited about both sports and encourage people of all ages to take advantage of competitions to enhance their skills.
